Bargaining is the process of negotiating the contract between AFSCME Local 2837 and Deschutes Public Library. This contract determines salaries, annual Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA), Time Management, holidays, disciplinary actions, and almost anything else that impacts your working conditions.

Everyone represented by AFSCME Local 2837.

However, only dues-paying members of the Union are eligible to participate in the bargaining process: presenting ideas, voting on changes, and ratifying the contract.

The MAT is a group of dues-paying members who support bargaining actions and build membership power. They bring concerns to the Bargaining Team and address rumors, misinformation, and concerns and answer members' questions about the bargaining process.

You! What does an active membership bring to the bargaining process?

  • They understand their role in negotiation.
  • They provide honest feedback about their priorities.
  • They understand that no Bargaining Team will get everything they want and that our leaders are acting in good faith.
  • Participate and show support throughout the process.
